Kuinre has round about 1000 inhabitant, at the mouth of the Kuinder river. Kuinre is a very old village, with a Latin name Cunera; a fort was laid out here, and it only resulted in a lot of trouble, with irregulare gangs of Geldersen, Friezen, Drenthen, Spaniards and Bomm'n Berend van Galen of Munster plundering the village and countryside. The first fort was built c. 1165, demolished in the 13th century; a second one was built in the 14th century and demolished in the 16th.
