Harlingen is the only sea port of Friesland. From here the ferries operate to the islands Vlieland and Terschelling.

Harlingen has more than 500 monumental buildings. The city is so rich at historical objects of interest that you feel with a walk nearly as in an open air museum. On your sightseeing tour you meet the monument of Anton Wachter, the main figure from the books of the Harlinger author Simon Vestdijk.
